To reach 100% renewables, we must stop the overbuild of fossil fuel infrastructure! THIS STARTS AT HOME – WITH BERKSHIRE GAS!
There is a DPU proceeding right now that will set the stage for the future buildout of Berkshire Gas.
• PLEASE CALL YOUR STATE LEGISLATORS IF THEY ARE LISTED BELOW

“I hope (Name of Legislator) has seen the Action Plan for Berkshire Gas to end the moratorium that the Towns of Montague and Deerfield sent him last week. I urge him to fully support these solutions to the moratorium. And I urge him NOT to compromise with any Berkshire Gas proposal that would send more gas into my community (or: into the Pioneer Valley) than we need for local economic development as we transition to an economy powered by conservation and 100% renewable energy.”
LEGISLATORS IN BERKSHIRE GAS MORATORIUM AREA:
• Sen. Stan Rosenberg, Senate president: 617-722-1500; 413-584-1649
• Rep. Solomon Goldstein-Rose, 3rd Hampshire Dist. 617-722-2582
• Rep. Peter V. Kocot, 1st Hampshire Dist. 617-722-2140
• Rep. Stephen Kulik, 1st Franklin Dist. 617-722-2380; 413-977-3580
• Rep. Paul W. Mark, 2nd Berkshire Dist. 617-722-2304; 413-464-5635
• Rep. John W. Scibak, 2nd Hampshire Dist. 617-722-2030; 413-539-6566
Why take this Action now?
The Towns of Montague and Deerfield need OUR support for their proposed Action Plan for Berkshire Gas, to end the Company’s moratorium on new natural-gas customers and on expansion of service to existing customers in its eight Pioneer Valley ratepayer towns. If you are from ANY town represented by the state legislators listed above, please contact them during the coming week to urge their firm support for Montague and Deerfield’s plan.
Montague and Deerfield’s modest proposals to end the moratorium are based on expert testimony that Montague filed with the Mass. Dept. of Public Utilities in a DPU proceeding that will decide what Berkshire is allowed to do. The two Towns’ recommendations stand in sharp contrast to the only two projects Berkshire has been willing to offer: a brand-new in-state gas pipeline the size of the current one called the Northampton Lateral, or a massive new Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) storage facility that would dwarf the Company’s current LNG storage in Whately.
The state legislators listed represent the eight moratorium towns. They received Montague/Deerfield’s “Action Plan”, along with Montague’s expert testimony and other supporting materials between April 12 and 14. All of these representatives are “limited participants” in the DPU proceeding (docket 16-103). While they have no official influence over the Company or the DPU, we believe that their perspectives may be powerful and persuasive to Berkshire Gas Company or DPU officials.
