Late April 2020: This project is in limbo. After the Columbia Gas disaster in the Merrimack Valley, Columbia Gas has been barred from doing business in Massachusetts. Eversource is planning to buy Columbia Gas’ Massachusetts assets and has stated that they intend to continue this project, but as of the end of April 2020, there have been no filings with the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities.

Columbia Gas was a natural gas distributor (“LDC”, or local distribution company), with three service territories in Massachusetts. It is a subsidiary of NiSource Inc., the second-largest natural gas distributor in the United States, headquartered in Ohio.
They were proposing a local pipeline “Reliability Project” as a solution to its current moratorium on new customers in the Pioneer Valley region. (Massachusetts DPU Docket #17-172 (search this number for full docket) – Initial filing here. ).
