Palmer Renewable Energy, Springfield, MA. 1200 tons per day of fuel derived from wood to produce 42 MW of power.
The PRE plant’s air permit allows it to emit 34 tons of particulate matter a year, 13 tons of “hazardous air pollutants” including dioxins, heavy metals, and carcinogenic products of combustion such as benzene and formaldehyde, and over 170 tons combined per year of ozone precursors NOx, VOCs, andcarbon monoxide, plus sulfur dioxide and ammonia.
