Aside from the petition, we also have community support from our coalition members and Boards of Health in the region who have engaged in requesting a meeting with plant owners to discuss plans for decarbonization.

MEETING REQUEST PETITION – 300 SIGNATURES REQUESTING MEETINGS!
Thanks to pressure from all of you, we have had meetings with both owners of Berkshire Peaker Plants.
• Cogentrix, owner of two plants – Doreen St. and Woodland Ave. (plus another in W. Springfield), is set on transitioning to storage and clean energy by December 2023.
• The owners of Pittsfield Generating are in talks with energy analysts, our elected leaders and Peaker Coalition leaders at BEAT, but they also have applied to have their Air Quality Permit renewed to continue regular fossil-fuel based operations.
We still need them to commit to a full and swift transition away from fossil fuels. Conversations between us, legislators and plant owners are continuing for now.
• The hearing on this permit renewal was held in November 2021 and revealed outdated regulations at Mass DEP, making them unable to enforce needed emissions reductions.
As of end of March 2022, we have not heard a decision on Pittsfield Generating’s permit renewal.
